Embarrassing events you’ve attended
What’s the most embarrassing event you’ve ever been to ?,I went to a Gary Glitter Christmas concert at Wembley Arena, full of wankers in tin foil capes shouting leader at the nonce case (I never paid for the ticket-it was a spare a mate had)

I went to one of those sometime in the 90s. Must have been about the time of the soup adverts that revitalised his career for a while.

He was already physically fucked back then. He would sort of puff and pant onto the stage, do a bit of shouting with raised eyebrows, then puff and pant back off again (presumably for some oxygen?), while his younger band and some dancers kept it all going until he was ready to come back on for some more yelling.

A whole set of it really brought home just how shit his songs were as well.

A mate of mine would sometimes open the windows and drive his car really slow past the queue outside Hollywood’s playing classical music on his big bass rig. The passengers squirming and hiding in their seats

I saw Gary Glitter twice , once in the college on the Mile End road and the other time in the now defunct dock lands arena .

Both gigs were pretty good .

A good wind up is to take the roof off my car and turn leader of the gang up to 11.

The passengers try to hide and the other drivers visibly tut.

Probably a fancy dress party many years ago. Reverse Vicars and Tarts. I made a good tart actually although the high heels killed me. The embarrassing part it was a wind up and I was the only one in fancy dress! The other embarrassing part - only half the 200 attendees knew about the wind up. I'll never forget the bizarre looks on the doormen's faces!!

You should have resisted chiff, my boy. I avoided all country music concerts for 25 some years in the heart of country music...country.

Until I had to work at a small town newspaper, where that was a good part of the entertainment and once the Agriculture Society brought Randy Travis to town. He played for 2000 people in a gloried barn, where they would also hold rodeos. But I got paid to go.

Re: Embarrassing events you’ve attended
A friend of mine invited another friend and I to a music event the other side of town. We had to walk three miles and through the city centre. Imagine our embarrassment when we knocked on my friend's house to be greeted my our friends mum and dad in full cowboy gear. Walking through the city centre we drew a lot of unwanted attention and the odd comment. I thought I had got away with not meeting any people I new much to my relief, until I got to school on the following Monday.

Can't think of anything big except weddings

When I worked for a small newspaper and owned a decent camera (and was getting okay with it) people would ask me to do weddings on the cheap.

My favourite was one with black and red as their colours, registered at Walmart.

When I was working in China. We had to follow the big Communist party honchos in their cars for hours and we got to a huge viaduct with the big fuck off red lanterns and ribbons and they do love a firework normally ones with shrapnel

We went on the viaduct an their were TV cameras there an we were given flowers to pin on our shirts, and I was to the translator, wtf is this all about, he was just go with it.

100s of workers were all wearing camouflage and we had to cut a tape with golden scissors on pillow and present awards the worker all televised.

Also saw Gary Glitter at one of his Christmas shows in the mid 80's, even shook his hand.

At the time I thought it was little sticky but thought no more about it.

I'm completely straight...but went to the Eurovision in Kiev 2005. During the previous year's contest, I'd drunkenly said that next time a country won it that you wouldn't really visit on holiday...I would go to see it! And then Ukraine won...

It was actually a great weekend, but people did think I was a bit odd!

It was so strange. There were the Swedish (her family and friends, who mostly loved it), and then there was me, the groom and our mates (ozzies, kiwis, saffers and a giant pole) who'd been drinking all day, we just stood there staring in disbelief. Then raided the beer tent again.

Re: Embarrassing events you’ve attended
Went to a very good friend's wedding in Stockholm, he is a kiwi project manager, very grounded, loves a beer.

His wife is swedish and works in theatre design. She was always ok and good fun in London.

Her family are all in the arts, theatre or music and quite well off.

For the wedding, they hired one of the many islands around Stockholm, absolutely beautiful place.

Two moments stand out.

1) Before dinner, we were forced to watch a cringe-worthy video tribute to their daughter, mostly in Swedish and from people most of us didn't know.

2) After the strange ceremony, her brother gave his present outside on the main lawn. It was a tribute to his sister through the medium of modern dance with his dance company all dressed like ninjas.

Fucking bizarre.
